The Health Care Industry Leader (HCIL) for North America will deliver directional management including financial and operational responsibility for the relevant Business Unit and adherence to Group standards. Working with CRB leadership, the HCPL will be responsible for building, developing and growing the Health Care CRB business and cross sell with Client Relationship Directors and the Human Capital Practice across the U.S., enhancing strategic client and market relationships.

The Role

The Health Care Industry Leader (HCIL) for North America will deliver directional management including financial and operational responsibility for the relevant Business Unit and adherence to Group standards. Working with CRB leadership, the HCPL will be responsible for building, developing and growing the Health Care CRB business and cross sell with Client Relationship Directors and the Human Capital Practice across the U.S., enhancing strategic client and market relationships. This role requires the professional to have strong influencer characteristics and a flexible leadership personality style. This role has two direct reports and multiple matrix reports. Direct reports include the National HC Intellectual Capital and Operational Excellence Leader and the National Clinical and Risk Management Expert. Key matrix reports include an Industry Knowledge Manager, an Industry Captive Specialist, a National Industry Broking Leader, RCCA National HC Claims Specialist and Centers Of Excellence (COE) Leadership = Senior Living, Physicians, Hospital and Healthcare Systems (3). As the North American HCIL, you will act as a solution expert, who will establish and maintain excellent working relationships both internally and externally with WTW Client Professionals, Clients and Carriers. You will promote products and deliver the highest level of service to Willis Towers Watson networks and key strategic stakeholders. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for strategic direction of the business and provide executive leadership internally

  • Maintain alignment with North America CRB core business objectives

  • Assist Producers and Lead sales efforts within the Health Care segment including participating in high profile RFPs, serving as keynote speaker in relevant opportunities and ensuring market connectivity

  • Lead branding in the Health Care segment including content, analytics, affiliate relationships, training & education, COI networking

  • Provide operational leadership by leading an efficient business (resource deployment)

  • Responsible for leading National Health Care team focused on stimulating revenue growth and meeting business objectives by placing new business, improving retention rates, increasing commission rates and utilizing group resources

  • Provide expertise for difficult to place business, including marketing new business opportunities and securing coverage

  • Influence Local Team review of renewal business for adequacy of coverage and competitive rates

  • Negotiate terms for major accounts and provide expertise for difficult to place business as required by local service teams, working with placement professionals within broking

  • Coordinate with National Broking lead and all Regional and in Country Broking Officers on the national broking strategy for Health Care Placements

  • Coordinate with the local offices, Regional Partners and Managing Partners to ensure alignment between broking and production strategies

  • Recruit, motivate, mentor and manage workflow of assigned National Health Care Team members; ensure local succession planning is in place

  • Direct/delegate work of others

  • To ensure that all Associates that he/she manages are adequately trained and competent to enable them to be successful in putting the interests of clients and the integrity of the market at the heart of the way they do business

The Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience utilizing strong influence leadership skills with the ability to navigate matrix organizational structures

  • 10+ years of experience in underwriting, broking and/or Health Care Risk Management, preferably in a leadership position

  • University Degree, MBA, RN and/or or Legal degree a plus, not required

  • Professional qualifications of ARM, CPCU, CRM or similar or relevant industry experience preferred

  • Knowledge and understanding of global marketplace with a particular focus in North America Professional liability risk and related solutions

  • Proven experience leading the strategic development and delivery of the relevant Business Units to ensure sustainable, profitable growth

  • Knowledge of and experience working with various Health Care Insurance Markets

  • Ability to manage and lead staff (as and when required)

  • Ability to provide expert, in depth advice to client resulting in overall client satisfaction

  • Demonstrated success leading the development of new and existing business propositions and sales pipelines

  • Skilled at interfacing with customers

  • Strong communication and presentation skills

  • Proven track record of developing new partner markets where needed locally and support nationally based relationships with carriers and clients

  • Budget and financial forecasting capabilities

  • Ability to operate in a matrix environment
