Internal Audit (IA) is an independent function that provides WTW’s boards and management with objective assurance and advisory services in relation to the company’s processes and controls focussed on effectively mitigating key business, financial, operational and regulatory risks. The Role

The Investment, Risk & Reinsurance (IRR) Director of Internal Audit will report to the Chief Auditor, and will be responsible for developing, updating and implementing a comprehensive risk-based audit plan which covers the Investment, Risk & Reinsurance segment, working in conjunction with all the Segment, Geography and Function Directors of IA. The person will also liaise closely with the various management teams incorporated within the IRR Business Segment and the other IA teams working, to support effective mitigation of key Group business, operational, regulatory and financial risks as appropriate. The Investment, Risk & Reinsurance (IRR) Director of Internal Audit attends Management and Board meetings along with the Chief Auditor as required, and will be responsible for the quality, timeliness and accuracy of reports and outputs of his or her team. This position is location agnostic and will require some travel.

This role also supports the Chief Auditor in developing a suitably risk-based audit plan for the Office of the General Counsel (OGC), working with the Compliance, Risk and Legal management teams across the OGC globally, in collaboration with the Segment and Geography Directors of IA to assist with effective mitigation of key business, operational, and regulatory risks.

Principal Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver a risk based audit plan covering Investment, Risk and Reinsurance, and the Office of the General Counsel with input from other Segment, Geography and Function IA Director’s, as well as the Chief Auditor; ensure through quarterly reviews and regular stakeholder relationship meetings that the plan remains current and relevant to support WTW in effectively mitigating key risks as appropriate to meet corporate objectives

  • Working in close collaboration with the IA Chief of Staff, and Segment, Geography and Function IA Director’s, and relevant IA teams

  • Proactively manage the relationships with the IRR and OGC Leadership teams, the external auditors and the relevant regulators as required

  • Lead, motivate and develop colleagues by providing direction, timely feedback, and coaching

  • Direct and review the work of the team to ensure audit reports are timely, thorough, accurate and presentable

  • Contribute to the development of the department’s technology, methodology and processes

  • Collaborate with senior colleagues across IA, Finance, Business Segments, Compliance, Risk Management, and Legal to improve the quality of controls and risk management across the Group.

The Requirements

  • Senior management internal audit experience in a large international financial services company at a Head of Audit level or equivalent; or a Director level professional from a top four auditing firm specialising in Internal Audit / Risk Management

  • Sound awareness of regulatory requirements and associated risks and controls in a Global operation

  • Ability and track record of leading, developing and motivating a team of audit professionals and delivering results

  • Strong communication skills including written, verbal and presentational

  • Strong commercial acumen and gravitas to interact comfortably and persuasively with executive level management and board members

  • Ability and track record of influencing top management from different cultures and nationalities

  • Ability and track record of leading complex multi-location audits, investigations or forensic reviews and meeting tight deadlines

  • Preparedness to accept international travel commitments

  • Experience in the asset management sector or insurance industry, desirable

  • Graduate calibre with either ACA, ACCA, CMIIA or equivalent professional qualifications

  • Proficiency in basic PC applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)

  • Proficiency in another widely used language in WTW, other than English, desirable.
