Our Analytics and Model Development (AMD) specialists concentrate on Willis Re’s catastrophe model building and the development of analytical tools. The team is comprised of individuals with expertise in hydrology, atmospheric science, seismology, spatial analytics, economics and software development. We are a growing, multi-national team in Willis Re, comprised of enthusiastic, dynamic and team oriented individuals who work closely with the Willis Research Network fellows to translate the latest science and technology into client solutions. AMD constantly advances in-house modelling solutions, combining insurance industry experience with expert knowledge, to quantify the financial impact of natural and man-made catastrophes on our clients’ portfolios across the world. The key focus is on building models where no reliable risk quantification tools exist using our technical expertise coupled with innovative product design.
The Senior Catastrophe Model Developer will work within the Analytics and Model Development team of Willis Re to support clients and brokers across our international business in order to identify and quantify catastrophe risk.
Catastrophe model development for peril risk quantification (preferably flood)
Working with account teams to deliver bespoke risk solutions to clients
Presenting technical solutions to internal and external clients in a digestible format
Contributing to the development and maintenance of our proprietary modelling platform
Project management of development work
Undertaking management tasks with a view to building further management responsibility
Building capability by sharing knowledge and experience with more junior team members
Collaborating with academic and industry partners
Liaising with offices and teams world-wide, which could involve local and overseas travel
Significant experience within an analytical environment in a commercial role with a focus on catastrophe model development
Proven track record of catastrophe model calibration and validation as well as interpretation of loss estimates
Knowledge of insurance and reinsurance terms and business
Strong project management, delivery and execution skills
Effective communication techniques applied in internal and external client meetings
Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, multi-task and prioritise project work
Experience in working across different time zones and with teams in overseas locations
The ability to work in a team and autonomously, and general willingness to learn and grow within a global market leader
Understanding of the business and regulatory context of modelling processes
Understanding of the physics of natural catastrophes (flood, earthquake, wind/hail, etc.)
Experience in vendor catastrophe model evaluation and adjustment
Experience with migrating catastrophe models to different modelling platforms (OASIS, platform upgrade)
Ability to read and understand code (R, Python, C++)
GIS software experience (ArcGIS, QGIS)
Relational database management systems experience (SQL)
