This role can be located in Minneapolis, MN (US) or London or Ipswich (UK).

The candidate will implement IT solutions and services with a focus on infrastructure, networking and security in a Microsoft Azure cloud environment for Willis Re Technology Team. This position is responsible for end-to-end design and build of infrastructure solutions/blueprints on Azure which meet defined business and technical requirements, align with enterprise architecture team and enterprise objectives, and integrate into the overall system design. Also provide support for the resolution of problems associated with cloud-based solutions/servers.

The Role

Primary responsibilities in this role will be:

  • Provide advanced system and network administration, operational support and problem resolution for a large complex cloud computing environment

  • Design, configure, implement and support an automated workflow for cloud environment provisioning.

  • Review and evaluate cloud server performance, capacity, and networking.

  • Development of automated solutions to monitor and support our software development and release processes.

  • Troubleshoot virtual hardware and software problems and take appropriate corrective action and/or interact with IT staff or vendors in performing complex testing, support, server recovery, and troubleshooting functions.

Design and Build 60%

  • Develop, implement, and maintain IaaS Infrastructure as a Service in a cloud environment.

  • Develop a library of deployable and documented cloud design scripts, processes, and procedures.

  • Utilize configuration and deployment tools for automation in a cloud environment.

  • Develop a library of deployable and documented cloud design scripts, processes, and procedures

  • Forecast system demands and recommends upgrades, expansions and reconfigurations.

  • Perform cloud computing environment build-outs, site setup, user training, hardware/software installation, maintenance and support and documentation of operating procedures and processes.

  • Implement and utilize automation to perform system administration including changes, deletes, disk space management, application installation, and backups for cloud systems.

  • Assist in creation and enforcement of cloud architecture standards in a cloud environment.

  • Develop and maintain scripts for automated builds of development, testing, production, and DR environments.

  • Stay in tune with new technologies.

  • Provide technical expertise to other team members.

Support duties 40%

  • Troubleshoot virtual hardware and software problems, and take appropriate corrective action and/or interact with IT staff or vendors in performing complex testing, support, server recovery, and troubleshooting functions.

  • Provides technical support to resolve issues related to Operating System, Networking or Database in Azure environment.

  • Identifies and diagnoses complex problems and factors affecting cloud network performance.

The Requirements

Essential

  • Minimum High school diploma (US) & UK equivalent.

  • In depth system administration experience and knowledge, including Windows operating system, hardware, and networking

  • 7+ years’ experience in IT systems installation, operations, administration, and maintenance of virtualized servers

  • 3+ years’ experience working with cloud technologies; Azure experience highly desired

  • 5+ years’ experience scripting in languages such as Python, JSON, shell scripting, PowerShell, and PowerCLI.

  • General working knowledge of NAS, SAN, operating system administration

  • In depth knowledge and corporate hands-on experience with configuration and implementation of IaaS / infrastructure as code on Azure cloud.

  • Working knowledge of SQL Server database including configuration, security, backup and troubleshooting.

  • Good consultative, communication, analytical, and judgment skills.

  • Ability to communicate well and perform as part of a team located in multiple time zones / cultures.

Desirable

  • Understanding of Insurance/Reinsurance

  • Microsoft certification with Azure.

  • Working knowledge of DevOps development activities and complex development tasks, including container management systems

  • Working knowledge of Azure PaaS and SaaS solutions including SQL Server Database and MS Dynamics.
